Lion's Tail

The Lion's Tail cocktail originated in the 1940s and became popular in post-war America. It mixes bourbon or rye whiskey, lime juice, allspice dram, and simple syrup for a spicy-sweet taste. The allspice dram gives it a unique flavor different from other classic drinks. This refreshing cocktail is a beloved choice among cocktail fans and a connection to the history of mixology.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces bourbon

  • ½ ounce allspice dram

  • ½ ounce lime juice, freshly squeezed

  • ¼ ounce simple syrup

  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters

  • Garnish: orange twist

Preparation:

  1. Add the bourbon, allspice dram, lime juice, simple syrup and bitters into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled.

  2. Strain into a coupe or cocktail glass.

  3. Lightly express the oil from an orange twist over the top of the drink.
